Bairro C: Compromisso Carbono Zero
Bairro C – Compromisso Carbono Zero (Zero Carbon Commitment) is a pilot project for climate action and urban innovation, developed in Guimarães as part of the European NetZeroCities program, the same initiative that now funds the A+CLASS – Alliance for Climate Leadership for Actionable Sustainability Solutions project. Implemented in the areas of Couros, Caldeiroa, and Avenida Conde Margaride, Neighborhood C served as a living laboratory for urban climate transition, testing concrete solutions to reduce emissions and promote sustainable behaviors. Its approach integrated the areas of energy, mobility, waste, and land use, combining social innovation, citizen participation, and scientific knowledge.
This pioneering project was the pilot for Guimarães’ Climate City Contract (CCC), demonstrating how collaboration between the municipality, universities, companies, and citizens can have a real impact on the territory.
Based on the pillars of Culture, Creativity, Knowledge, and Science, Bairro C consolidated the vision of a carbon-neutral, inclusive, and participatory city, serving as the basis and inspiration for the development of A+CLASS.
